Christopher Bell wins this week at Darlington . Here are the top 5 charts for the week and the segment.

Unfortunately ‘Over The Edge’ missed the pick window deadline and will be scored with 0 points for this race … He has since made his picks and will start scoring points with the next race … He has already seen some of the updates that I have made recently … Automatically at a predetermined time (currently 2 hours) before the deadline an email is sent to any teams that have not made their picks yet.

The next thing that happens at the deadline if no picks have been submitted, is instead of switching to the team chart, you will see the late pick form. It is clearly identified that you are making late picks. It shows the original deadline, and when your picks will become effective (which is the next race). That is effectively your new deadline, and if you make your picks by then, at that time, the page will switch to the team chart as usual. Just like with the original deadline, you have until then to make and change your picks if you wish.

The next (maybe last) thing that you’ll see is that any team that missed the original deadline will be clearly marked with an * in the team chart, along with a footnote at the bottom explaining why … in this case it’s a ‘Late Pick’ → * Over The Edge — Late Pick — Effective R28 (World Wide Tech). The other current possibility is a replacement driver per Rule 3.
These may not seem too important now, but as mentioned before, the other project I’ve been working on is auto scoring for next year. Not to get too in depth, but in the process of developing it, it has become apparent that it is necessary to know what drivers a team had at any given point in the season. Having that information, along with race-data snapshots based on changes from ESPN (our scoring data source), allows the standings to be calculated and displayed for any point in the season.
I’ve been running the automated scoring alongside the existing process this season, which lets me compare the automated results against the current standings before it becomes the primary system.
OK, maybe too deep… 😎
